Winter at Sonnenhof

Skiing at one of the biggest and best ski areas in the world

The Sonnenhof is 900m away from the new Choralmbahn cable railway. The next ski run can be reached by foot in under 10 minutes. Under good snow conditions it is possible to ski right to the house. Those who are less ambitious can reach the gondola, and Europe's largest ski area, in just a few minutes by car. Naturally, there is a ski storage room and a ski boot warmer at your disposal.

Westendorf is located in the midst of the Kitzb├╝hel ski area and the SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser-Brixental. Both of these regions are connected by the Ki-West cable railway in Westendorf. This guarantees a maximum level of skiing pleasure in one of Europe's largest connected skiing networks!

The SkiWelt Wilder Kaiser-Brixental offers the best conditions on over 250 kilometres of downhill runs, consisting of all levels of difficulty, and has already been distinguished as the TOP ski area a number of times. Modern lift facilities enable a quick and safe ascent. The sunny ski area is well loved by athletic skiers and families alike. Over 70 rustic ski lodges and mountain guesthouses treat you with traditional and/or international specialties.

Because of its location, the Westendorf ski area has reliable snow conditions and is attractive thanks to its 4 different, kilometre-long ski runs.

Ski touring

The Windautal mountains are a magnificent place for ski touring. Here you will have unforgettable experiences in untouched nature. Skiing in its original form. You can reach the starting points for your tours in Windautal by car. You can also ascend to Brechhorn, Fleiding and other mountains directly from the house at the edge of the ski runs.

Cross country skiing

Whether classic or skating strides, the reliable snow at the Westendorf cross country trails that satisfy all demands, can be reached by car in just a few minutes. A trail with artificial snow ensures an additional consistent snowpack; it is even illuminated until 21:00, 4 days a week!

Going snowshoeing is a very special experience. Walking through powder snow in a winter wonderland is fascinating and calming; it can be done leisurely or athletically. We give you suggestions about fresh, untrodden paths and snowshoe rentals are available on location. Discover, for instance, our little mountain meadow in Windautal on a loop trail.

Winter hiking

Winter hiking is a very special experience. Nature covered in deep snow, frozen streams, snow crunching underfoot, plus fresh air and warm rays of sunlight create a relaxing, almost meditative atmosphere. From romantic hikes in the valley to challenging mountain hikes - everyone finds his or her path here. Several routes can be found close to our house and we are happy to give you tips for your excursions.

The Westendorf Tourism Association

The Westendorf Tourism Association (Tourismusverband Westendorf) provides an attractive weekly programme with highlights like snowshoeing, a night-time torch-lit hike, cross country courses, winter hikes, night skiing,... Winter activities like skating, Bavarian curling, horseback riding, horse-drawn sleigh rides ensure fun and high spirits... you can experience all of these things in Westendorf.

Consistent snowpack is naturally something that cannot be guaranteed, but many facts speak for the extraordinarily good supply of white splendour that is found here. The snowpack consistency in the Kitzb├╝hel Alps is double. Blessed by nature with a consistent snowpack thanks to its micro-climate, modern technology also ensures against any eventualities.

The weather in our region is known for not only being sunny, but consider this: that's precisely what makes the nature here so unique. Green. Vibrant. Beautiful.

Rain  is no obstacle to relaxing and exploring. In fact many wonders only reveal themselves when it is raining.

"Nothing can open the door to one's self better than a walk through bad weather."

Mark Twain, (1835 - 1910), real name Samuel Langhorne Clemens, American author and humorist.
